Have you thought about your thoughts lately?

The practices of Asana have a direct effect on the energy of the body. The practices we do in class correct the body’s posture so that we experience more energy and vitality. This is a result of the relaxing of certain tensions we all hold in our bodies in different ways. Releasing these allows a better flow of the energy called Prana. This energy is the vitalising active energy we all need to go about our day and life.

There is however another equally important form of energy we are concerned with in yoga…

The power of thought

The quality of the thoughts, has a powerful effect on the way we transform the energy we have into our lives, our work, our relationships and our life’s purpose.

It is quite simple really. The thoughts we have over and over, become the template with which we build our lives. This is why meditation is so important. As we become aware of the quality of these thoughts, we begin to see how we are continually creating our future by having them.

The task is a large one, but the initial steps are simple.

Observe and become Aware.

Become aware of the quality of the thoughts. If all you have time for is an hour or so during Yoga class, try compliment this with a moment of consideration when you next wake up in the morning.

What is the quality of your first thought when you wake up? How does this effect your day? Your week? Notice without judgement how your thoughts turn up and stick around. How they influence how you feel and how much energy you have.

Then allow those thoughts to float off as you breath, smile and have a lovely day, knowing that you are not your thoughts. You are the still and stable presence that observes them and can watch as they drift past.
